Album Review: TXT – The Dream Chapter: MAGIC

Tomorrow X Together (TXT) is back with brand new music, many fans were looking forward to the release of this group and as usual they did not disappoint.

Let’s start off by appreciating the concept video of their album ‘The Dream Chapter: Magic’. It is stunning, every single member had his chance to shine and show off their dancing and performing skills. The lighting and set up in this concept video is absolutely gorgeous.

The Dream Chapter: Magic

This new release is their first full length album with a total of 8 songs, and after listening to the full record I can say that all of the tracks are full of ‘Magic’.

In this release TXT shows a completely different side as artists. They are growing up and this is definitely shown in the album. I really liked how the producers behind these tracks experimented with new sounds, styles and arrangements. This album definitely shows the growth of the idol group since their debut EP.

Now, let’s start with the songs. The album kicks off with ‘New Rules’, a track charged with synthetic and fun tunes with a pop vibe that I loved. The song has an amazing build up, and the rapping and singing is just legendary.

9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)’ is their title track and it is an absolute journey from the beginning. This song experiments with different sounds. It starts off acoustically and transitions to electric guitars, drums and synth tunes #Legendary. I completely get why this is the title track. It definitely sets the mood for the full album. Also that Harry Potter inspired melody definitely brought me onboard #PotterHead.

The third track is ‘Roller Coaster’. Personally I feel that this track is heavily Neo Kpop influenced. The different tunes, the arrangements and dynamics are all incredible and it’s probably one of my favorite tracks in this release. More importantly though, Huining Kai took part in the production of this song.

Poppin’ Star’ and ‘Angel or Devil’ are dance tracks with very refreshing sounds and melodies, great vocals and rapping. They remain firmly in the pop side of things but it is super fun to listen to.

Next on the list is another personal favorite, ‘Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?’. It’s a very refreshing tune in pop style with some electronic incorporation. The vocals are stunning as usual. This song feels like the perfect summer hit but the lyrics make it slightly more serious than it feels at first listen.

Magic Island’ and ‘20 cm’ are both ballads, with some incredibly soothing vocals and harmonization. These songs show a different side of TXT. There is nothing I don’t like about these tracks, they just are incredible.

Overall, ‘The Dream Chapter: Magic’ delivered everything. It is musically stunning and left me wondering what is next for this incredibly talented group.

If you haven’t listened to their latest release make sure to watch the MV, it is stunning.
