We’re back with another K-pop time capsule, listening to FTIsland’s ‘Lovesick‘. We stan FTIsland and picking just one of their older songs to feature was quite the challenge. But when in doubt, go back to the basics (Rain pun not intended but I’ll stand by it).
Lovesick
‘Lovesick’ was the #1 track in FTISLAND’s debut album ‘Cheerful Sensibility‘, all the way back in 2007. Ah, my youth. The album had two distinct parts; the first half, the ‘Emotional chapter’, is full of rock ballads, while the ‘FTISLAND chapter’ features more upbeat pop-rock songs. These were composed by Japanese creators who had worked with the legendary J-pop band SMAP.
Now, I admit ‘Reo Reo‘ still lives rent-free in my head with its unnerving happy tune. That said, I think we can all agree that peppy pop is not FTISLAND’s brand. Let’s face it though, Lee Hong Ki’s powerhouse emotional vocals are basically just wasted on this sort of song. That man’s voice should be named a national treasure, and this is a hill I’m willing to die on.
They actually remade ‘Lovesick’ in 2017 for their 10th anniversary, but below we have the original MV. The mid-2000’s vibes are strong with this one, as are Lee Hong Ki’s killer vocals. Look at them all with the messy haircuts <3. Enjoy!
