SuperM -The Avengers of K-POP

SM Entertainment has been building up the public excitement with the debut of their new idol group ‘SuperM’.

Now, what makes it so super? The line-up of the newly formed group is not just incredibly talented and experienced, but also already has a large following.

Who is in it? NCT’s Taeyong, Ten, Lucas and Mark; EXO’s Baekhyun and Kai; and last but not least, the one and only Taemin who is both a solo artist and a member of SHINee. It’s a mix of concentrated power and talent with experience. They know how to debut, they know how to perform, they already have a fanbase. There’s no risk at all. It sounds a bit odd however.

Many of you might have felt the same because, once Lee So Man announced the formation of this new idol group, I had my doubts. It’s not because they lack talent or anything, but because of the amount of time each one of them has already had in the industry.

Taemin has been an idol since he was 15 and has built up a solid career of 11 years not just as a member of SHINee but also as a soloist, whilst the other members have been in the industry between 3 to 6 years.

New generation

I’ve been following the releases of the trailers for each of the members closely. As they were unveiling the concept of each member, all of my doubts were taken away progressively. The part that finally brought me on board was Mark’s rap in his concept video. That was the moment where I was 100% sure this was going to be good and SM knew what they were doing.

The investment, time and creativity in these videos are beyond incredible. They are on par with big Hollywood productions. The concepts were well thought out and I’m sure they knew they were going to get positive feedback despite they backlash they received at the beginning mainly from the fans of the groups.

Music without borders

The increase of the popularity of Korean Music (K-Pop) across the globe and the way it’s redefining the global music industry, gave SM the opportunity to embark and bet on the talent of these experienced idols. It gave them the platform to create ‘The Avengers Of K-pop’. Super M is set to debut and promote their first album mainly in the United States and South Korea.

We are looking forward to see the coverage their debut is going to have. They are set to hold their first showcase on the 4 October 2019 and we are sure it’s going to be big and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

In the meantime, check the latest performance video they released. Honestly, it’s amazing.
