[Review] Yang Da Il – our joys and sadnesses

Popular Korean balladist Yang Da Il has blessed us today with the release of his new full studio album ‘our joys and sadnesses’. Let’s dive right in because I’ve been waiting for this one.

Our joys and sadnesses

We start off with the single ‘Loss’. This single was written, composed and arranged by Jung Key. ‘Loss’ has some interesting guitar riffs in the back which makes the song a little bit lighter. The piano and Yang Da Il’s vocals keep it all wrapped together nicely.

After that we get the title track ‘Hurt’ which came with a brand new music video. This feels classic Yang Da Il which means it hurts like a suckerpunch in your feelings.

‘Joy’ starts off with such a happy, funky little intro. This sounds utterly lovely and has some interesting vocal acrobatics. The song was co-written by Yang Da Il himself and Jay Moon. Honestly it’s a 10/10.

Next up is ‘Sometimes’ which is a pre-released track that came out in December.

‘Nothin’ without you’ was written by Yang Da Il and leans into ballad R&B and it’s so smooth. Shyun who co-composed the track, lent her voice for the chorus as well. It’s such a lovely collaboration. I’m in love.

Next up

The next track is another pre-release. ‘Understand’ was released in April and is a song I’m actually still listening to frequently. We wrote about that release here.

‘At Last’ is another work that Shyun helped Yang Da Il with. This pre-chorus is super lovely and I can still hear traces of Shyun’s voice in the back.

Following up on ‘At Last’ we have the 2019 release ‘My Love’

‘Alone’ is quite guitar focused and plays with the balance between your left and right headphone, so do take out your good headphones for this one. As you might have guessed, the female vocals are supplied by Shyun. Honestly their voices are amazing together. The same pretty much goes for the next track ‘Say no more’ though the instrumental bridge is next level.

We’re on track eleven with ‘Counting the nights’ which is super soft and feels like a lullaby.

The last track on the album is another pre-release, ‘Darling’. I love this one as much as the day it was released.

Go ahead and check out the album ‘our joys and sadnesses’ by Yang Da Il out here on YouTube Music. Unfortunately I couldn’t find it on Spotify yet, but I’m sure that that’ll be updated later.
