There’s a new subunit in town with UAU from Dreamcatcher, who’ve released their debut ‘Playlist # You Are’. UAU stands for You Are You and is formed by JiU, SuA and Yoohyeon.
Playlist # You Are
We start off with the mid-tempo ‘Sacrifice’. We’re getting a lovely blend of R&B with some jazzy moments and an incredible bass. The vocals are everything and it’s a super smooth opening to the mini-album. This feels quite 90s inspired.
After that comes the first title track ‘2 Months’. “It is an experimental pop genre based on Afrobeat, and it expresses the atmosphere up to the chorus by playing vague chords with cool synth.” It’s a dope track that completely breaks with their Dreamcatcher sound. It takes some getting used to, but honestly I dig it.
‘Attitude’ is another experimental pop track, but it’s really interesting to listen to. The xylosynth is a really cool addition. The chorus is such a vibe, I really liked the high parts. According to the album description: ” It contains my feelings of wanting to leave behind the ‘me’ of the past, where I couldn’t even clearly see what I liked, and change into a confident person.”
The intro to ‘Good Luck’ gave me chills. I love a good city pop moment where the woodwind goes crazy. This was lovely and I really enjoyed the progression and the various instruments layered in the instrumentation.
