[Review] U-KNOW – NOIR

K-pop legend U-KNOW is back with his second mini-album ‘NOIR‘, it’s been almost two years since his last solo release and fans were looking forward to this mini-album.

Let’s start check the music!

NOIR

Starting off this release is ‘Time Machine‘ with a mix between electro-pop, R&B with a touch of synth. This track’s layering is insanely good, super refreshing and unique. I loved the concept to bits. The harmonization for the hook is top notch and overall this song felt like futuristic SM 2.0.

The title track ‘Thank You‘ follows, starting with an oriental influenced intro. The composition of this track is very impressive, the harmonizations and the increase of pitch for the pre-chorus are really well-done. However, the trumpet solo for the pre-bridge and the bridge itself are definitely the highlight of this pop song.

The music video is a short film on its own, with an insane budget, incredible cinematography and lots of action scenes. Check it below.

With a funky rhythm we get ‘Loco (House Party)‘, and this song is playful, joyful and super cool. U-KNOW’s falsettos in this track are just divine and so well done. It legit feels like a party song and I’m here for it.

A breeze of fresh summer synth-pop takes over in ‘Need You Right Now‘, this song is a smooth and chill listen with vocals that feel like a whisper in the ear.

Last on this EP is ‘La Rosa‘ featuring Shin Ye Eun. This track is an absolute interest ending, it has a rather dramatic feel to it with an acoustic guitar that gives this track an almost latin-pop vibe. The harmonizations between U-KNOW and Shin Ye Eun and incredible. And overall, this track had me wanting for and extra track, it really felt like an open ending for this EP.

U-KNOW absolutely killed it with this second mini-album, is diverse and super reach in sound, with an insane quality and excellent production. Make sure to listen to this release
