[Review] TWICE – Formula of Love: O+T=<3

The girls from TWICE are back with their third full-length album ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3’. We’ve been heavily anticipating this release!

Formula of Love: O+T=<3

We start off with the title track ‘Scientist’. It’s a cute pop track with a really sick beat. The chorus has lovely vocals and has a cool build-up. The dancebreak outro is super DOPE. Dahyun’s hair is hilarious.

The music video is giving me the same energy as the TikTok audio ‘I am a woman in STEM’.

‘MOONLIGHT’ follows that. This song has a disco groove vibe. It’s completely in English. I could see this being played on radio stations. It’s funky, has some serious soul to it and the vocals are super nice.

The next song ‘ICON’ carries a HUGE amount of power and confidence. The lyrics ‘Damn, I got it, I’m iconic’ is going down the history books. This track is also completely in English.

Dahyun wrote the lyrics for ‘CRUEL’. It’s a super cool dance track. I’m really loving the vocal pitches and the sexy guitar riff. I also really enjoyed the little echo effects they used for the vocals during the chorus.

Next up is ‘REAL YOU’. This track was written by Jihyo. We’re being blessed with some intense grooviness. There’s some really cool layering going on in this. The bridge slows things down a bit, to then escalate in the chorus again, it’s funky!

‘F.I.L.A (Fall in love again)’ was written by Nayeon. This is another sick groove. It’s giving me ‘Saturday Night Fever’ vibes. They’re really leaning into the retro theme in this album. TWICE and disco is a superb combination.

Next up

‘LAST WALTZ’ gives us the drama we were missing so far. The plucky guitar with the trap-like beat is insane. The chorus is super sexy. The rap verse had me shook. Honestly they played with the intensity so well in this one. The little falls in the vocals are everything. I am in love!

After that we get ‘ESPRESSO’. This beat is super cool. The spelling of the word ‘espresso’ has never sounded so good. I’m impressed. This track is straight up fire and feels like I’ve had a double shot espresso.

‘REWIND’ is an R&B ballad with lo-fi synths. The swing rhythm mixed with TWICE’s outstanding vocal line is brilliant and it is such a smooth listen.

Jihyo wrote the following song ‘CACTUS’. She also has co-composing credits. The pop rock ballad feels very fresh for TWICE. Jihyo’s cactus that dried out was the actual inspiration to the track. Honestly, iconic. ‘CACTUS’ has a super nice ambient sounding bridge.

Sub-units

There are three sub-unit tracks. The first one is ‘PUSH & PULL’ by Jihyo, Sana and Dahyun. It’s another funky track with some 80s soul thrown in. The brass is a lovely addition and really enhances the vibe. Dahyun’s rap verse was hella cool. I loved the playful switches between Jihyo and Sana’s vocals. It really fits the theme.

The second track is ‘HELLO’ by Nayeon, Momo and Chaeyoung. This track is INSANE. We’re going heavy hip-hop. I’m hyped up after listening to this. The switch to the chorus shocking to the system.

The last one is ‘1,3,2’ by Jeongyeon, Mina and Tzuyu. We’re getting some lovely reggaeton with great vocals. This is a summer track where you dance till the early hours. As soon as you start listening you’re vibing. It’s really fun!

‘CANDY’ is a song by TWICE for their fans. It’s a love song towards anyone who supports the girls. It’s a soft pop track with a lot of warmth. The chorus is really lovely!

After that we get the hit single ‘The Feels’ which we wrote about here and the R3HAB Remix of ‘SCIENTIST’.

Overall ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3’ by TWICE is an outstanding album filled with groovy bops. They really outdid themselves. Fans will adore this album for many years to come.
