[Review] The Fabulous

Netflix did not stop surprising K-drama fans in 2022, and they closed the year with a few very outstanding productions in every genre. In today’s review we are talking about a lighthearted drama about friendship, love and fashion. Let’s dive into ‘The Fabulous’.

Directed by Kim Jung-Hyun, and written by Kim Ji-Hee and Im Jin-Sun, ‘The Fabulous’ talks about the life of four friends, and the challenges and struggles of working in the fashion industry.

Pyo Ji-Eun (Chae Soo-Bin) works in a luxury brand promotion agency, she’s always dreamed of working in the field since she was young, but never expected to deal with so many unexpected situations.

Ji Woo-Min (Minho) is a freelancer retoucher, his work is a lot more relaxed than his friends. He is quite well-known across the industry, and he is also the ride or die type of friend, who will do many extra jobs to help his close friends.

Ji-Eun and Woo-Min, dated in the past, but decided to stay friends to not make his common friends uncomfortable, however, one night after too many drinks and a lot of fun, they end up having a little fling.

Ride or Die

Joseph (Lee Sang-woon) is a sensitive and very talented fashion designer who is trying to make it big in the industry, and with the help of his friends Ji-Eun, Woo Min and Ye Seon-ho (Park Hee-jung), a supermodel, he is on his way.

Seon-ho on her side is a famous model who is tired of the way in which the industry where she works moves and treats fellow supermodels, and she always makes sure everyone knows what she thinks, even if it means to get blacklisted in the fashion business.

These four friends cover four different angles in the fashion industry, and with each other’s help they will try to thrive and make it in a tough world.

A lighthearted watch

The Fabulous’ is a lovely short-drama, in every single one of its eight episodes we see Ji-eun, Woo-Min, Joseph and Seon-ho, explore not just life and their work environment, but also facing many challenges that strengthen their relationship.

Ji-eun and Woo-min try to sort out the feelings they have for each other, but also are very present in the life of Joseph and Seon-ho, even if their relationship is complicated.

Even though this relationship is one of the focus of the drama, there are other many aspects that really make ‘The Fabulous’ even more enjoyable, there is no angst but instead a lot of issues that are part of their work life.

If you are up for amazing cinematography, gorgeous people, and a lot of fluff, this drama is available on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
