[Review] TAEYANG – Down to Earth

The one and only Taeyang is back with new music. A few weeks ago, he joined forces with BTS’ JIMIN for his pre-release single ‘Vibe’, and today he finally released his second mini-album ‘Down to Earth’.

This album marks a new beginning in Taeyang’s career. He recently moved to THE BLACK LABEL after being with YG Entertainment from his very early days as a trainee, and as part of the second generation group BIGBANG.

We are absolutely hyped about this EP, so let’s get to the music.

Down to Earth

The pre-release single ‘Vibe‘ opens up this highly awaited EP. We already wrote our thoughts about this single. Nevertheless, this song is still as charming and cool as it was when it was released. Check the music video below.

We go right into the single ‘Shoong!‘ featuring LISA of BLACKPINK, this song includes a smooth mix of R&B and trap that fit the vibe of this duo to perfection. This song is sexy, fun and groovy, and it gets even better with the clean moves of its performance music video.

For this MV Taeyang shows why he is such a respected all well-known main dancer, he hits the dance floor and owns it in every second. LISA as usual is flawless in every move, and the dance crew YGX complements this fantastic production. Check it below.

With the title track ‘Seed‘, Taeyang brings his emotional singing and heartfelt lyrical delivery back. The minimalistic instrumentation and beautiful acoustic piano brings all the feels out. There is a lot comfort and lots of feelings in this single. He does an amazing job at connecting the lyrics with the visuals of the music video.

The MV rolls with candid shots and a simple concept, putting a lot of focus of stunning landscapes and Taeyang’s facial expressions and delivery. Watch it below.

Reason‘ takes us back to the soul genre of the 70s. This single is warm and very welcoming. It’s an easy listen that will have you feeling the warmth of a spring day and falling in love with every single verse of it. This track is just super sweet and the vocals just beautiful.

Featuring Beenzino, ‘Inspiration‘ follows up with funk and a lovely guitar riff, this song is happy, fun and very refreshing. The mixing, orchestration and composition are just fantastic, and we would definitely love listening to this song live, the experience will most likely be out of this world.

Last in this mini album is ‘Nightfall‘ featuring Bryan Chase. This synth-pop single is energetic and vibey. The mix of vocals tones is very cool and the contrast of their delivery styles just make this single even better. The perfect closure for a perfect release.

TAEYANG came back with a solid release. Every single song in this mini-album is amazing, musically rich and full of soul. He delivered a non-skip and we can say that the wait was worth it!
