[Review] SUPER JUNIOR-D&E – COUNTDOWN

SUPER JUNIOR-D&E is back with their first album ‘COUNTDOWN‘. This duo consisting of Eunhyuk and Donghae released not long ago solo single albums where they showed off their incredible talent individually.

We have been looking forward to listen to what surprises this power combination is bringing this time, so, let’s get right into the music of this fantastic duo.

COUNTDOWN

The title track ‘ZERO‘ kicks off this album, and we are in for some trendy EDM beats and hip-hop rooted tracks. First off, Eunhyuk’s rapping in this song is super cool, and their harmonizations for the chorus is fantastic. The beat drops in this track makes it super interesting and had me wanting for more, the more I listened to it. Definitely a solid title song.

For the music video we get an arcade game concept mixed with neat camera work and transitions. Get ready for a cool choreography and visuals from every angle. Watch it below.

House music takes over in ‘Beautiful Liar‘, this song starts off with very soft singing, but in the beat drop we are presented to a summer time bop with a dope arrangement and a lot of style.

Bossa nova beats come along in ‘Far away‘ and I am seriously in love with Donghae’s vocal in this single. This song is a SMOOTH listen and everything about it is chill and good. A total vibe.

Feel That Feelin’‘ comes along with a guitar riff and a retro feel I loved. This track is a very interesting addition to the discography of D&E as a duo, they haven’t done anything like it before and I here for it. I would love seeing this song performed with a live band, it really has a lot of potential to hype up crowds.

La La La‘ follows up and this song was a surprise from start to end, the changes in the beats in this song are fantastic and had me really jamming to it, a bit unexpected but cool. In some parts it had that old K-pop vibe but then it changes completely with a fantastic electric guitar instrumentation. A rather odd but incredible mix.

D&E

The pop ballad ‘Have a Nice Day‘ is next, and get ready for some feels with this single. Donghae and Eunhyuk’s singing in this track is soft and emotional, and made this song a very heartfelt listen.

With a mix of Synth and funky beats ‘Muse‘ starts, the rapping in this song is the highlight for me. The full flow of Eunhyuk’s verse was super dope and gave this track a special touch. This song is likely to become one of my favourite b-sides by this duo.

Share My Love‘ plays next with a brighter and kinda cute energy. This song gave me such a positive vibe with its melody, definitely the type of single you listen to, to lift up your spirits.

With a breathtaking orchestration we get the single ‘Home‘, Donghae’s singing in this track is beautiful. He really goes off and pulls an emotional performance that goes straight into the listeners’ hearts. Absolutely stunning.

Last on this album is the English version of the title track ‘ZERO‘, closing this release on the high note it started.

SUPER JUNIOR-D&E went beyond all my expectations with this album. It is musically diverse and really showed what makes this duo so special, showing off their strengths and complementing each other musically.

Make sure to listen to this release here, and head over to our reviews for Donghae and Euhyuk‘s solo releases.
