[Review] SUNYE – [Genuine]

K-pop legend and former Wonder Girls’ member SUNYE is debuting solo with the EP ‘[GENUINE]‘. SUNYE who was in hiatus for a few years while focusing on her family, came back just last year when she joined the project “MAMA THE IDOL”, and dropped the single ‘WooAh HIP’ along with other well-known former idols and singers at the beginning of this year.

With the release of this single, many were looking forward to the comeback of the OGs. She is starting with this mini-album a new chapter in her career.

Let’s dive into the music.

[GENUINE]

Starting the album we get ‘GENUINE‘ with a mix of R&B and heavy bass making a strong contrast and welcoming listeners on a high note. This single is an impressive listen. We already knew her singing skills were incredible, but hearing SUNYE’s solo is a different story. This track is smooth and shows a confident side of her. What a start!

The title track ‘Just A Dancer‘ begins and this song has an amazing composition, again she WOWs listeners with her dynamic singing and unique but super charming tone. This song without a doubt is a strong solo debut single, its bassline and changes in tempo are perfection and the ad-libs are just heavenly.

For the music video SUNYE comes out strong with her dancing abilities and incredible stage presence, she did not come to play. Watch it below and be amazed.

Return of a legend

The pre-release single ‘Glass Heart‘ follows up with soft R&B and a heartwarming style. Just enjoy listening to this song and its beautifully done instrumentation and composition. Watch the live performance below.

We go onto the pop-ballad ‘Now I Fly‘, made to comfort fans and give them support through hard time. Get ready for piano and violin orchestration with this song. Sit, listen and dive into the emotions.

Best Thing‘ closes this solo debut EP with a lovely acoustic guitar intro and a dreamy sound. I loved the ad-libs in this song and how the harmonisations were just so splendid and effortlessly good.

SUNYE without a doubt came back stronger than ever. She delivered a fantastic mini-album. Make sure to listen to this release here.
