[Review] SEVENTEEN – Face The Sun

The boys from SEVENTEEN are back to bless this day with their new full-length album ‘Face The Sun’. Let’s dive right in, because I’ve been impatiently waiting on this release.

Face The Sun

We start off with the pre-release track ‘Dar+ling’ which we wrote about here.

Then comes the title track ‘HOT’. And like what’s in a name, other than that they all look hot in the MV. The8 with the red hair, the mesh shirt?? It’s illegal to look that good. Someone call the cops.

The Western themed opening makes way for the cool hip-hop meets a dash of EDM and just a lot of sass. The song slaps! It’s fun, I actually enjoyed the autotune, the car alarm sample was cool. I dig this title track so much!

DON QUIXOTE’ comes next. This rock hip-hop blend is all about gathering your courage and finding the strengh to keep going. The rap sections were fire!

Next up is ‘March’. Get your electric guitars out, because we’re going rock! I kind of wish they leaned in a tad more into the genre and maybe added a bit more bass to make it even more impactful. I wish I could see a live version of this with an actual band, it’d be so dope.

‘Domino’ literally gave me whiplash. This brings me back to the softer, fresh SEVENTEEN moments. I love the staccato in the chorus. The music feels so ‘plucky’ and it’s a really cool listening experience.

Next up

After that we get ‘Shadow’. The vocals in this one are super, super nice. This pop rock wouldn’t have been out of place as a title track. It’s one of my favorite B-sides so far. Seungkwan’s vocals shine.

”bout you’ brings us the summer pop we were missing. This begs for a beach-at-sundown live session with a camp fire. For some reason I’m reminded of their ‘Holiday’ video. I love this happy SEVENTEEN track. It’s so cute. The harmonies give me life.

‘IF you leave me’ starts off with soothing piano and I was already feeling emotional. The members gave it their all with the vocals and swell of emotions and had me in literal tears. Read the lyrics for the ultimate heartbreaking experience.

The closing track is ‘Ash’. Trap hip-hop with heaps of autotune and just straight up fire rapping moments. Mingyu’s deep timbre had me shook. Honestly the track is a vibe. I’m kind of surprised they closed with this one.

Overall, ‘Face the sun’ is another great addition to the discography of SEVENTEEN. Go ahead and check out the album on Spotify here.
