[Review] Nucksal – 1Q87

Nucksal is finally back with his new album ‘1Q87’ and we are excited! Let’s dive right in!

1Q87

We start the album off with the track ‘BAD TRIP’. This came accompanied by a new music video. This song is WOW. I like the duality between the calm verses and the chaotic chorus. Definitely turn on the captions for this one, because the lyricism is unreal. There is definitely some nightmare fuel in the music video, so watch at your own risk.

Next up is ‘AM I A SLAVE’ that was pre-released two weeks ago. This track, composed and arranged by Buggy has some really cool instrumentation. The heavy synths flow so well with the lyrics. It’s quite disconcerting, but then again so is the theme of the song.

‘WON’ is the first joint feature on the album. Woo and Odee are both featured on this one. From dissing each other on ‘Show Me The Money’ to featuring together on a song, that’s wholesome.

Next up is the track ‘AKIRA’ featuring Gaeko. This was partly played in the music video of ‘BAD TRIP’. What an interesting track. We get some funky instrumentals and spitfire rapping. Why do they go so well together? It’s dope.

Interlude

After that we get the interlude ‘Crack Kidz’. This clocks in just over a minute and was composed by Fredi Casso who’s composed songs for Rohann, Choi Sam and QM. I think it’s well positioned in the album and gives us the time for a quick breather.

‘Dance Class’ follows that. Another Fredi Casso production and it flows so nicely. Quite a bit of repetition in the lyrics, but it’s definitely an earworm.

We’re on track number seven with ‘Yeonhui-dong BADASS’. I love this one. Everything from the flow, to the story fits together so well. The jazz piano and bass in the instrumentals are so dope.

I’m getting major flashbacks with the track ‘Brother’ featuring Don Mills and Los. The high pitched vocal sample feels so old school. I dig it.

After that we get ‘Love Myself’. This goes hard y’all. I like the different chapters with the vocal tone. I do have to mention that in the first couple of seconds I thought my headphones were done for.

Next up is ‘Mirror’ featuring Hwaji. This was co-produced by Hwaji and Code Kunst. I love this one. The chorus is catchy as hell and overall it feels rather soft and a bit held-back.

The eleventh track is ‘You And Me’ with the featured artist Gummy. Her voice is so incredibly soothing. I love this combo. In comparison to the previous tracks, this feels a lot calmer, more grounded. I’m also reminded of more old school 90s Hip Hop.

The last track on ‘1Q87’ is ‘The Fall’ featuring new AOMG artist DeVita. I am absolutely in love with her voice and this track feels like a proper closing statement to such a really good album.
