[Review] MIRAE – Splash

The boys from MIRAE are back with their second mini-album ‘Splash’. They had their debut in March with the mini ‘KILLA’ which you can read about here.

Splash

Starting off, we have the title track ‘Splash‘. This hybrid of trap, hip-hop and R&B is a hard-hitting bop. Right from the get-go we have high energy and intense beats. The members did a really good job with their vocals and the rapping verses. The bridge was kinda crazy, I wish they had leaned into that a bit more.

‘Bang-Up’ follows that with heavy EDM. I like how they balanced it out. It’s a shot of energy without being overbearing. The message is all about ‘Run without stopping for the future’. It’s a total banger and will no doubt be a fan favorite.

Next up

Next up is ‘New Days’. This one leans more to Deep House. It’s a refreshing change after the firs two tracks, more laidback with the intensity. It’s still a super catchy track. Their vocals take the spotlight a bit more. However, the stand out was the rap section for me, it’s dope.

‘Don’t Stop’ brings us some rock inspired sounds. I am in LOVE with this track. The electric guitar, the vocals, the whispering, it all fits together so well! It feels like a teenage anthem to break the chain and rebel.

Track five is ‘#Secret’. We’re going soft with happy pop. The pre-chorus really took me to an unexpected place, I thought we were going to get some sort of beat drop before we went into the rather happy sounding chorus. It’s a fun track that gives us some fantastic vocals.

The last track on the mini is ‘SUGAR’ which is a funky pop track that gives some retro synths. This is a very easy-listening track that will make you happy in no time. It’s cheerful and the synths make it feel bouncy.

Overall, ‘Splash’ by MIRAE is a very solid mini-album that houses a variety of genres with consistent quality. Go ahead and listen to the mini on Spotify here.
