[Review] Jihyo – ZONE

TWICE’s Jihyo finally dropped her solo debut album ‘ZONE’. The teasers looked absolutely amazing and had us counting down the days. Let’s dive in!

ZONE

We start with the title track ‘Killin’ Me Good’. This is a cool contemporary pop track with Jihyo’s killer vocals and killer presence. The chorus is super catchy and the music video is stunning because Jihyo is visuqls.

Watch the music video below.

After that comes the track ‘Talkin’ About It’ featuring 24kGoldn. This is a dance pop track with a sexy vibe and a catchy hook. Jihyo co-composed the track while she was in the US.

Closer’ is the third track. We’re going for R&B pop with a Latin beat. Jihyo’s timbre fits this genre so well, it’s an absolute vibe. She wrote the lyrics herself and it’s straight up fire.

‘Wishing On You’ is a future R&B genre song with a cool ringtone intro. There’s lots of falsettos and high-pitched ad-libs and it’s just another example of how broad her range is. The bass in this track is also really dope.

Next up is ‘Don’t Wanna Go Back’ featuring Heize. This is an R&B track with an acoustic guitar that really enhances the instrumentation. Heize’s and Jihyo’s vocals are such a unique combination. The layering is really well done and I desperately want a live version of this because this sounds amazing.

‘Room’ is a softer track with stunning violins in the instrumentation performed by the Esmé Quartet. This softer R&B track is beautiful and literally such a great listen. I’m intrigued by the little bell sound in the backing track.

The closing track is ‘Nightmare’. This song was performed during TWICE’s world tour ‘READY TO BE’.

Jihyo did a fantastic job with ‘ZONE’. It’s always interesting to see which directions the solo releases take, but this R&B side fits Jihyo like a glove.
