[Review] IRENE & SEULGI – TILT

The queens from Red Velvet IRENE & SEULGI are back with the second mini-album ‘TILT’ of this sub-unit. This is their first comeback since 2020 and we’re super stoked. This s such a tour de force. Let’s dive right in!

TILT

We start off with the title track ‘TILT’. This is such a vibe! It’s a pop dance meets R&B vocals heaven and is such an earworm. The vocals are heavenly, as we’ve come to expect, but this has such an effortlessly cool je ne sais qoui. It’s a worthy successor.

Next up is ‘What’s your problem’ featuring Julie of Kiss of Life. According to the album description this is “a modern reinterpretation of the 90s hip-hop R&B sound.” I’m totally loving the groove and the brass in the backing track. This was a fun listen!

‘Irresistible’ is a cool pop dance track with a nicely layered guitar in the instrumentals. I do feel like it could have benefited from a more diverse range. The middle section was lovely though.

‘Girl Next Door’ brings some love to “ordinary girls who live in the neighborhood but follow their own path, delivering praise and comfort to all the ‘Girl Next Door’ of this era who may seem quiet but possess confidence and energy that shines brighter than anyone else.” I’m in love with the groovy instrumentals and the powerful vocals.

Next up is ‘Trampoline’. This is a really cool pop R&B blend. I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of the synths with the piano. Honestly this is super rad. What a cool track! Despite it being so short it does have somewhat of a bridge.

The closing track ‘Heaven’ brings us a delicious R&B slice. It’s a very dreamy track that fits them to a T. The synths, the drums and the electric guitars are such a delight together with ther vocals. The chorus is really well crafted.
