Our queen from Red Velvet IRENE released her first solo mini-album ‘Like A Flower’. This is her first solo release since her debut in the group, so of course we’re super excited about this music drop. Let’s check it out!
Like A Flower
We start off with the title track ‘Like A Flower’. This is a pop dance track with a bright vibe. The Afrobeats create a really fun vibe which is enhanced by the synths and the soft vocals. Honestly I’m kind of obsessed with this title track.
Irene looks absolutely stunning in the music video.
After that comes ‘Summer Rain’. This is a pop ballad with a heavy bass that mimics the sound of falling rain. I really enjoyed this line from the album description “The ‘summer rain’ in the lyrics is a metaphor that symbolizes the connection between you and me and ‘memories’, and the message is that as long as ‘our’ memories exist and I exist by your side, we will strongly overcome this summer once again, even if we shake like daisies trapped in summer rain.”
The lyrics were co-written by Sweden Laundry which we recently wrote about here.
‘Calling Me Back’ is a futuristic pop R&B track that seamlessly introduces dreamy synths and piano lines on top of an 808 bass and trap beats. I like the vocal line in this a lot. There’s quite a few interesting changes in pitch and tone.
‘Strawberry Silhouette’ is a mid-tempo pop R&B fusion with a lively sound and strong percussion. This is a sexy track with sugary sweet lyrics.
Next up is ‘Start Line’. The lyrics were written by the Korean band LUCY who we know and love. ‘Start Line’ is a pop band track talking about the importance of courage to take one more step forward. I’m absolutely in love with this track and super happy about this collaboration.
‘Winter wish’ is a pop dance track with an exciting beat and a lovely message of the happiness in the magic of Christmas. There are two special tracks included in the mini-album. There’s ‘Ka-Ching’ which is a pop dance track with a fun synth and ‘I feel pretty’ where we slow things down in an acoustic pop song with a soft guitar.
