iKONICS, the wait is over, iKON is finally back with their fourth mini-album ‘FLASHBACK‘. I know I am not alone saying that I missed their music a lot. I really hope this EP is a new beginning for them.
For this release as usual the members co-wrote and co-composed most of the songs. I am rather curious to see what direction they took with this mini-album. Let’s dive in and check the music.
FLASHBACK
We get right in with the title track ‘BUT YOU‘ with a heavy 80s disco pop sound I did not see coming. This songs leans more on the softer side. The vocals are absolutely heavenly! We even get BOBBY singing with is not quite common and DK killing it with his high notes.
For the music video, they went for aesthetics that reminded me to early iKON visuals but a lot more mature and trendy. It is for sure a very fun contrast and I liked how they kept it simple for the effects, and focused a lot more in the vibe.

‘DRAGON‘ is up next with an awesome EDM arrangement and a fantastic mixing, this song is a hype anthem, and everything about is cool, and the changes of tempo and riff are super dope.
With rhythmic drums and guitar we get ‘FOR REAL?‘ and this song screams iKON b-side. The falsettos, rapping and full flow of this song are super good, and at the same time a bit nostalgic.
With chill hip-hop vibes we get ‘GOLD‘, this song is a fun listen with a laid back feel and cool beats. Last on its digital version is ‘NAME‘ closing this mini-album with heavenly vocals and a lot of emotions and the piano instrumentation is absolutely stunning. I missed iKON ballads. They really go straight to the heart.
