[Review] I.O.I – LOOP

The girlies from I.O.I are back with their mini-album ‘LOOP’. This is literally such an iconic and unexpected comeback, I’m living for it. It’s been 10 years since their debut. Let’s take a closer look!

LOOP

We start off with ‘IOI (Where my girls at)’. This is a fun dance pop track with a nice progression. I really enjoyed the catchy, synthy chorus.

Next up is the title track ‘Suddenly’. We’re going for a synth pop sound, with a really nice texture. Somi is listed in the credits for the lyrics, as the album description writes “infusing the lyrics with the sincerity of the time spent together and the poignancy of relationships that are reconnected.”

‘SPF100+ (summer pop fantasy)’ is an Afrobeats track with a fun energy and a refreshing vibe. Get your groove on with this catchy vibe and nice groove, folks!

Next up is ‘If I’ with a rock and synth blend. “It sings of the realization that although there were moments when they drifted apart in their respective timelines, they were ultimately always in the same place. It captures the moment of reunion faced after skipping a 10-year hiatus, portraying a relationship that remains unchanged and continues even as time passes, like a movie.”

‘Then, Now and Forever’ was written and composed by Chung Ha. It’s a beautiful ballad with rich vocals, and the emotional classic of strings and piano together. It’s also a companion piece to their track ‘Downpour’.

The closing track is ‘Goodbye with a smile (Recorded in 2016)’ which is an archive piece.
