ZEROBASEONE is debuting a brand-new sub-unit, and we are going hip-hop for this one! Consisting of our lovely boys Gunwook and Matthew, this sub-unit goes by the name EMP, and their first release is the mixtape ‘EMP Mixtape Vol.1: We the Extra’.
We already know that their chemistry is incredible, so we were excited to see what they had created for this sub-unit debut, especially since they are credited on all the tracks. Let’s dive in and check out the music!
EMP Mixtape Vol.1: We the Extra
This release kicks off with the first title single, ‘EMP’, packed with deep bass and an effortlessly cool beat. The track flows with an underground feel, accompanied by sick delivery from Gunwook and Matthew. They bounce, flow, and deliver with so much fire, and we love how intense yet effortlessly cool this track feels.
‘Woofer’ is up next with a mix of trap and hip-hop that feels slightly aggressive while maintaining the underground vibe. Following the energy of its predecessor, the track is totally explosive, and we really liked the vocal layering, mixing, and ad-libs throughout the song.
We move into smooth R&B sounds with ‘In your’, where the duo delivers a passionate track. Their delivery is packed with emotion while still feeling smooth and sensual, only getting better with the backing vocals, ad-libs, and smooth falsettos.
Closing the release is the second title single, ‘Pina C’. For this song, we get another smooth single that mixes pop, R&B, and hip-hop with a late-summer feel. This track is super refreshing and vibey, while the music video feels like a compilation of candid footage. It is definitely super cute and perfectly showcases their charisma and chemistry.
