The boys from BTOB are back with their new EP ‘4U : OUTSIDE’. This is their first comeback after their participation on ‘Kingdom: Legendary War‘ where they blew audiences away with their charisma and great performances. Let’s dive right in!
4U : OUTSIDE
We start off with the opening track ‘DREAMER’. The single was written by members Minhyuk and Peniel. It’s a cool Dance track with a lot of acoustic elements. Their vocals are the highlight, with some chill-inducing chanting in the bridge with amazing layering. Those insane runs are awesome.
Next up is the title track ‘OUTSIDER’ which is a groovy dance track. The music video is hilarious. Eunkwang is a zombie, Peniel has some Cruella De Vil vibes with his hair, though he looks great with it. The song is so good! The instrumentals they used are fab and the rap verses are great.
‘Can’t Breathe’ starts off as a normal balllad, but the rap verse brings energy to it. It’s a great duality and I’m digging it. I like the back and forth between slow verses and the electro pop chorus. It’s really catchy and prepare to have this song stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
Next up
We’re going synthpop with ‘Traveler’. According to the album description this “is a song containing a message of consolation to those who have become adults, but sometimes feel burdened and lonely.” It’s rather wholesome and the song feels very warm and consoling. If you’ve had a rough day, listen to this.
Next up is ‘Waiting 4 U’. This is the first proper BTOB-style ballad of the album. It’s lovely, has great vocal harmonies and I can’t wait to hear a live performance of the track. The guitar in the instrumentals is a lovely addition. Member Hyunsik who is currently in the military, co-wrote and co-composed this one.
The last track is ‘Finale (Show And Prove)’. This was their original track for the show ‘Kingdom’ and still sounds as awesome as the first time I heard it. This is such a wild ride. I am still in love with the Broadway vibes of this track.
Overall, ‘4U : OUTSIDE’ by BTOB is a great mini-album that shows their strengths as a group. Minhyuk and Peniel have writing credits on all tracks with Minhyuk co-composing three of them as well.
