[Review ] ATEEZ at Afas Live Amsterdam

On 12 May the 8 guys of the South Korean boy group ATEEZ gave a show at the Afas Live in Amsterdam. This comes after a delay of two years because of the pandemic. Even though it was a Thursday, this didn’t stop fans from queueing up from 5AM. Throughout the day fans from all over the world started trickling in. The atmosphere was very good.

Everyone was excited since everyone has been waiting to see ATEEZ. Everyone was queueing up in different areas for their wristband that they were getting at 12pm. After the wristband, people dispersed to get food and eventually got back in line while waiting for the doors to open at 6PM.

As the door opened, the venue started to fill in slowly. On the big screen they were playing  ATEEZ music videos and fans happily and excitedly sang along. The show started about ten minutes later than scheduled but they opened with the banger ‘Wonderland’. After every 3 to 4 songs they either took a moment to talk to fans or a vcr was put on so they could go for an outfit change.

While talking to their fans they spoke mostly in English and even used some Dutch words they learned. They also did some little dances to introduce their next song.

Maddox

About halfway through the show, they introduced Maddox who is under the same label and co-writes some of their music and he came out and sang two songs. He did a cover of Adele’s ‘Easy on me’ and he sang ‘Lamp’. He got everyone to turn on their phone light to accompany his beautiful singing.

After he sang the two songs he thanked everyone and left the stage and gave it back to Ateez where they performed the second part of their setlist with brand new outfits.

After the show there was a hi-wave. Due to the pandemic they decided to not do the hi-touch and changed it into hi-wave. They sat behind plexiglass and the fans got to walk past them and wave. To accommodate the change the fans were allowed to film the boys while walking past them.

After the fans finished waving at ATEEZ they received a tour poster. While some fans would still hang around to wait for their friends and talk about their excitement from the show to the hi-wave, some would go and get some last minute merch.
