[Review] aespa – LEMONADE

After an explosive and surprising pre-release, the girls from aespa are finally back with new music in their second full album, ‘LEMONADE‘. A few weeks ago, they released ‘WDA (Whole Different Animal)’ featuring G-DRAGON, instantly sending expectations and hype for this comeback through the roof.

aespa is already known for their incredible production, bold concepts, and genre-blending music, so let’s dive in and check out what they prepared for this release.

LEMONADE

The pre-release single ‘WDA (Whole Different Animal)‘, featuring G-DRAGON, kicks off the album by immediately establishing the bold and edgy atmosphere of the project. The track smoothly transitions into the title song, ‘LEMONADE‘, an intense EDM-driven anthem packed with synth-heavy bass and explosive energy. The production completely goes off, constantly playing with vocal dynamics while delivering a catchy hook, a flawless build-up, and an insanely smooth bridge that makes the song feel like an instant party anthem.

SHAKIN’‘ continues the edgy energy of the album with rough synth textures and an incredibly satisfying progression. The track feels alternative and refreshing, while the members shine through charismatic rap sections, addictive ad-libs, and dynamic vocal flows that keep the song engaging from start to finish.

We then move into rock-inspired territory with ‘Can’t Help Myself’. aespa absolutely shines here thanks to their powerful vocals and the impressive guitar-driven arrangement. The track even carries slight country-rock influences, while the electric guitar instrumentals give the song an extra layer of intensity and attitude.

Camouflage‘ takes over with dreamy hyper-pop influences and a surprisingly soft atmosphere. Despite the fast-paced and bouncy production, the vocals remain delicate, airy, and smooth, creating a fascinating contrast that adds a softer emotional layer to the album.

We return to full anthem energy with ‘Bite‘, where aespa delivers pure power through explosive rap sections and a catchy melody. The hook build-up is incredibly satisfying, and the transitions throughout the arrangement feel intense yet seamless at the same time.

Switchblade‘, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, arrives next and delivers another powerful and unexpected collaboration. Leaning heavily into EDM and dance-pop influences, the track stands out through its infectious hook, polished progression, and flawless build-up. The contrast added by Ty Dolla $ign’s feature gives the song an entirely different texture that works surprisingly well within the album’s sonic direction.

The mood shifts into something more playful with ‘Roll‘, a track that cleverly incorporates a sample from a children’s song. Combined with aespa’s charisma and confident delivery, the playful concept transforms into something unexpectedly cool and addictive.

We then move into smooth R&B territory with ‘My Plan‘, delivering a softer and more delicate vibe. The members’ vocals sound especially rich here, while the playful melodies and sleek production turn the song into a fully immersive listening experience.

‘Til We Die‘ introduces a pop-rock atmosphere filled with stunning vocals and heavenly harmonies. The overall mood feels chill and emotional, while the intensity behind the lyrical delivery gives the song a powerful emotional edge that continues building as the track progresses.

Closing the album is a second version of the title track, ‘LEMONADE‘, this time featuring Becky G. The collaboration adds even more energy and girl-power charisma to an already explosive title song, ending the album on an especially fun and memorable note.

‘LEMONADE’ is packed with powerful production, addictive hooks, bold genre shifts, and unforgettable performances, creating a release that feels dynamic, refreshing, and completely non-skip from beginning to end.
