[Pride Month Special] Korean BL’s you should watch

Happy Pride Month! To celebrate this very special month we are bringing an exclusive list of our favourite Korean BLs you should check out.

If you are unfamiliar with the genre BL (aka. Boys Love) is a genre that focuses on gay relationships. This industry has been in constant growth over the past few years and with this, fans also got productions with higher budgets and better direction.

Here are just a few of our favourite ones:

First Love Again

When love transcends death and even reincarnation, souls are meant to be together. What happens if in the next life, the love of your existence is born as a man? ‘First Love Again’ tells the story of a popular novelist who has been waiting to meet his love once more, but destiny has prepared a plot twist and the reincarnation of his soulmate is a guy.

This drama deals with acceptance, love, and the cast has a fantastic chemistry. Watch the trailer below.

Blueming

Relationships might start on a rocky path but there is always time for redemption and acceptance of oneself. ‘Blueming’ is a 2022 drama that talks about the relationship of two university students who have to work together despite not having the best first impression.

I would have loved it if this story had more development. I feel that the plot had potential but was cut short and some subplots felt rushed. Nevertheless, it is a good watch. Check the trailer below.

Cherry Blossoms After Winter

Childhood friends living together until almost graduating from secondary school. However, time and personal preferences have driven apart over the years, to the point of not considering each other friends despite living under the same roof. The catch is that one of them has been in love with the other one all along, and now it’s time to confess before it’s too late.

Cherry Blossoms After Winter’ is probably one of the cutest stories I have watched this year. The story was well-developed and the character growth was good. These two love birds are wholesome and together they are learning to live life, accept themselves and be proud of who they are. Watch the trailer below.

Semantic Error

If you are on K-Drama and K-pop TikTok the chances that you have seen a bit of this series is high. Enemies-to-lovers is one of our favourite tropes out there, and this series mixes this well-loved plot-line and adds spice with idols as actors.

Semantic Error’ is one BL that exceeded expectations, the production was top tier, and the acting incredible, the chemistry between the leads was palpable and the way their moments were directed felt natural and not rushed. If you are up for a drama with great acting, direction and production, this one’s for you. Check the trailer below.

Light On Me

An introverted guy is trying to make friends in an all-boys high school. However, his rather unique personality makes it difficult. He is welcomed in the student council where he meets friends and also romance.

Light On Me’ is a 2021 production with a lot of fluff and cute moments, however, despite this this series also has its moments where it deals with more delicate topics. If you are up for a funny and easy watch series, check this one out.

The BL genre is without a doubt not just adding diversity to the entertainment world, but also showing a positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community. This industry keeps expanding day by day, and we hope to see further development and growth.

We will be on the look out for more diversity and representation in upcoming dramas, but for now binge watch these recommendations. Happy Pride Month!!
