Ode To The Artist: Park Hyo Shin

We’re back with a brand new Ode to the artist, this time about legendary vocalist Park Hyo Shin. The South Korean balladeer has been in the industry for a hot minute. He debuted in 1999 with the album ‘Things I cannot do for you’. He is currently signed under Glove Entertainment.

He didn’t immediately blow up, however after his participation in Lee So Ra’s TV-show, he became a lot bigger and his records started selling like hotcakes.

Hyo Shin is also a favorite for OSTs. He released songs for ‘Mr. Sunshine’, ‘Sorry, I love you’, ‘My Brother’ and ‘Marry Him if you dare’.

I don’t know if you’ve watched ‘Mr. Sunshine’ but it wouldn’t have been the same without this iconic, utterly tragic song.

Success after military service

After his military service, he released the track ‘Wild Flower’ and that’s actually the first song I ever heard by him. I’ve been quite obsessed with it for a while and it is a song that you can replay to bits and never get tired of it. If you’re ever in a sad mood, go ahead and listen to this one. It’ll comfort you.

Park Hyo Shin isn’t only an insanely talented singer, he also acts. He performed mainly in musical theatre like ‘Rock Hamlet’, ‘Mozart’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ where he played the lead role in all of them.

This is another track that is just so beautiful it hurts a little when you listen to it.

When I watched the video for ‘Home’ I was blown away by the story telling. It’s stunning and it immediately sucks you in. It’s quite an outlier for a K-pop music video.

I’ve already featured the song ‘The Other Day’ as a music video recommendation, but I really wanted to share it here as well. This song and music video go so well together. I’m still in awe.

The last song I want to share with you, is one of his latest releases. In 2019 he released the single ‘Goodbye’ and it seems that Park Hyo Shin is aging like a fine wine.

If I made you curious enough to start listening to his releases, I recommend starting with his 2016 album ‘I am a dreamer’ because it’s utter perfection.
