Ode To The Artist: Davichi

We’re back with a new Ode To The Artist, this time about the duo Davichi. These icons have been releasing stunning, emotive ballads since 2008. So let’s take a closer look.

Debut

Davichi is a duo consisting of Lee Hae-ri and Kang Min-Kyung. The name of the duo stands for the Korean phrase ‘shining over everything’.

They debuted in January 2008 with the full-length album ‘Amaranth’ under Core Contents Media.

Pretty much from the get-go they were really successful commercially. In their debut year they won multiple awards for Best New Artist.

A year after, they came back with the EP ‘Davichi in Wonderland’.

In 2010 Davichi released the EP ‘INNOCENCE’.

They followed that up with the EP ‘Love Delight’ with the title track ‘Don’t say goodbye’.

‘Mystic Ballad Pt.2’ was their second full-length album. The pre-released track ‘Turtle’ features 5doll member Hyoyoung.

The single ‘Be Warned’ featuring Verbal Jint was released a couple of weeks after ‘Mystic Ballad Pt.2’.

In June 2014, Davichi released the EP ‘6,7’. This was their last release with Core Contents Media. They ended up signing with CJ E&M.

New Label

Their first EP under CJ E&M was ‘Hug’ which came out in 2015. There were two title tracks; ‘Cry Again’ and ‘Sorry I’m Happy’.

Then in 2016, the EP ‘50 X HALF’ came out. This was also the first time I listened to their music. The title track ‘Love is’ was the first song I ever heard by them. The music video features actor Lee Jong-Suk

‘&10’ was their next full-length album and was released to celebrate their ten year anniversary. ‘Days without you’ features Kang Daniel as an actor in the music video.

Between all of those studio albums and EPs they also released a lot of singles. It’s worth it to spend a couple of days in their full discography. You’ll get A+ vocals and beautiful emotive ballads. You’ll get all the feels while listening to them. That might also be why they’re so popular.

OSTs

Of course, no one appreciates a ballad more than a K-drama viewer. Davichi has countless soundtracks, so we’ll just share our favorites.

‘East of Eden’

‘Smile Mom’

‘Ghostly’

‘Big’

‘It’s alright it’s love’

‘Descendants of the sun’

‘While You Were Sleeping’

‘Crash Landing on You’

That’s it for this Ode To The Artist to Davichi. The two women are absolutely incredible and it’s hard to put their vocal talent in words when all you have to do is listen to one of their songs.
