K-pop is big at the moment, like world-wide big. There are fans all across the globe who will look up content of groups like BTS, Monsta X, Blackpink, Red Velvet and many, many more. However, there’s a whole continent of untapped musical potential. That’s why we figured we’d travel around Asia to share some of our favorite music per country. Because let’s be honest, if you like K-pop you’re probably open to music in languages you don’t understand.
For now we’re sticking to a music roadtrip around East-Asia, as Asia is a huge continent and we want to share as many artists as we can. That’s why we’ll do this in multiple parts.
Let’s dive in!
CHINA
Wendy Wander
This Chinese band has some groovy indie music.
Sabrina Lo
Sabrina Lo has an amazing voice and I can’t tell you how obsessed I’ve been with this song. I think if you like Taeyeon, then you’ll no doubt like Sabrina as well.
Lexie Liu
Lexie Liu at this point is a global phenomenon as well. Her music is amazing and the girl has star appeal in spades.
YELLOW
This groove had me shook and gives me that old timey feel from the fifties. It’s swing baby.
Leah Dou
A bit more experimental, a touch more EDM, but it’s so dope.
YU
This Chinese-Japanese singer has a wonderful voice and even acted in the drama ‘No. 1 for you’.
Ling Chao
Ling Chao is a bit of a recent discovery. We discovered one of his songs thanks to the YouTube algorithm. What a blessing though.
MONGOLIA
The Hu
This band is epic for so many reasons. Their song ‘Yuve Yuve Yu’ was the first one I discovered and I couldn’t not share it with you. Make sure to turn on your captions! Also if you listen to this with your good headphones, it hits even better.
Enguun
She was part of ‘The Voice Mongolia’. If you need some powerful vocals, check Enguun out.
Bold
Bold was originally part of a boy group, but he went solo in 2015. He’s also a professional violinist.
JAPAN
Ichiko Aoba
If you like listening to sirens sing, please check this one out.
BBHF
This band is incredible and their music is a shot of serotonin.
ROTH BART BARON
This indie band was founded in 2008 so you have plenty of music to dig through.
Chanmina
Chanmina is a huge star with so many amazing bops. She had a collab with Taeyeon as well last year.
GARNiDELiA
The rock duo GARNiDELiA is awesome.
TAIWAN
Eric Chou
Probably one of the biggest stars in Taiwan at the moment. The man has a voice of gold.
Vicky Chen
Vicky Chen is so talented, my god.
E.so
E.so is a Taiwanese rapper. He’s also part of the trio MJ116. His songs are a vibe.
CHING G SQUAD
This Taiwanese co-ed group has some fantastic R&B tunes.
Eve Ai
This wonderful vocalist was the winner of Super Idol 5 in 2010.
Of course Korea falls under the East-Asia category as well. Since we’ve dedicated an entire website to the topic, I figured you could just browse our site to discover new artists.
That’s it for the first part of our series of Music Roadtrip Around East-Asia. I hope I’ve introduced some new artists in your life, with plenty of new bops. I’m always up for a round of music appreciation, especially when the music is out of your own realm of influence. Tell us if we missed your favorite artist in the comments!
