[Review] Taeyeon – What Do I Call You

Taeyeon is back with her fourth mini-album ‘What Do I Call You’. We’re hyped up so let’s dive right in!

What Do I Call You

We start off with the title track ‘What Do I Call You Now’ which is a beautiful R&B pop song with Taeyeon’s smoky vocals. The music video reminds me a little of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. The single is very much a break-up song where the person is asking themselves what name they should use because they used to only engage in cute nicknames.

‘Playlist’ is next with a more acoustic feel. I really dig the guitar and the piano accents. It’s a cute little song that is a perfect listen for when you need to wind down after a long day.

After that we get ‘To The Moon’. Taeyeon co-wrote this track and I found another familiar name in the credits: SOLE. There is definitely some interesting instrumentation going on. I’m not sure what kind of sample they used in the chorus, but it distorts the vibe and kind of threw me off a bit. Apart from that it’s a funky R&B track with some beautiful vocalization.

‘Wildfire’ follows that with such a happy vibe. The balance between the instrumentation and Taeyeon’s vocals feels great and it is such a lovely listen! The different samples had me bopping.

‘Galaxy’ is the last track on the mini-album and ends on a more melancholic note. This R&B ballad has some stunning guitar in the melody. Taeyeon’s vocals add so much warmth to the track. I’m 100% in love with this.

Go ahead and listen to ‘What Do I Call You’ by Taeyeon on Spotify here. In the physical copy the last single is ‘Happy’ which was pre-released. You can find our article about that here.
