K-INDIE CHART – MAY

We’re back with the latest K-Indie Chart and this time we’re taking a closer look at the bestsellers of May! We’re super stoked, because we’re seeing a lot of newcomers on the list.

Bak Chang Geun is returning to the top 10 with his release ‘Poems 25’. The Black Skirts and Hyukoh’s collab album with Sunset Rollercoaster ‘AAA’ are also familiar faces.

The duo no reply is charting with their 2010 album ‘Dream‘. CHEEZE released her full-length album ‘It just happened‘ at the end of April. The collab EP ‘Format’ by Fisherman and Kuonechan which came out in 2017 is also back on the chart.

We also have another duo on the list; HWAKIN released their album ‘SECRET WEAPON’ at the end of April.

Ha Hyun Sang – Elegy

Ha Hyun Sang took the number 1 spot with his EP ‘Elegy’ which came out in October 2024. He wrote in the album description that he’s basically comforting his own sadness when he writes music. He hopes that he also comforts others with his songs.

The EP has 6 tracks, all equally devastating. Highlights for me were the title track ‘Scent’ for its beautiful lyricism and ‘Reason’ for its beautiful guitars.

‘On the quiet’ I enjoyed for its particular sound that creates such an intimate feeling and eventually when the instrumentation swells and layers are added, like the violin and a Flugelhorn played by Andi Roselund, it becomes magnificent.

wave to earth – play with earth! 0.03

wave to earth frequently inhabit the top 10 but it’s the first time they chart with ‘play with earth! 0.03’. They released this album in September 2024. They also dropped an extended version in October of that year.

Sidenote, you can now pre-order the CD or vinyl on this website and the vinyl is literally so pretty!

The EP contains 7 tracks and has such a lovely sound throughout. Highlights for me are ‘Play with earth’ because of its insane guitar sections and excellent use of synth. I also love the melody.

‘Annie’ is another track that I adore. It’s so smooth and the vocals are lovely. They’re actually nominated for Best Modern Rock Song at the Korean Music Awards of 2025. wave to earth included a clean version of this track on their extended release.

There’s also a remastered version of ‘Pueblo’ which originally came out in 2020.

Go ahead and listen to the album here on Spotify.
