K-Drama Recommendation: Hymn of Death.

Something that I really love about K-dramas is that they normally have a happy ending and I actively try to find the cute ones that have an end like that because those ones leave a wonderful memory and the freshness of puppy love in my head.

A few months ago my Netflix feed kept recommending a short drama called “Hymn of Death” based on my almost obsession with Lee Jong-Suk dramas. Though I wasn’t planning on watching that one because of its title and its description, I’m glad I decided to give it a chance because it became one of my favorite dramas of all times.

Starring Lee Jong-Suk and Shin Hye-Song, Hymn of Death is a tragic romance between Korea’s first soprano and a genius playwright. The plot is based on a real life story which makes it even more heartbreaking and it’s full of moments that will leave you breathless and inspired by the talent of these people who in my opinion were ahead of their time and had to suffer the consequences of having such a different mindset and vision of the society they lived in.

Set in Joseon during the Japanese occupation, this adaptation shows the life of the Yun Sim-deok and Kim U-Jin before their tragic ending and the things they had to deal with during this period in Korea’s history.

I would definitely recommend anyone to watch this short but extremely meaningful mini series. It is full of incredible music, beautiful sets, passionate acting and writing that is so well done that it would leave anyone watching, inspired and looking for more of the work of Kim U-Jin.

Have you watched it? If yes, let us know what you loved most about the series.
