June Korean Indie DisKovery

The month of June is over so that means we’re back with our Korean Indie DisKovery. I hope we’re all planning trips to explore some other parts of the world or just enjoy life next to the pool with a cocktail in hand. Let’s check out some of our favorite releases that could be your soundtrack for the summer.

Week 1

Bukyng came out with ‘Letter’. This is a wonderful jazzy ballad with Bukyng’s beautiful rich timbre. This romantic song should be considered for your wedding song. The lyrics are so sweet.

RUMKICKS dropped the bop ‘Punk is nowhere’. In the video you can see the members go through hate comments. Apparently they dress too neatly, they’re too clean and the ‘punk’ feels like cosplay. This song is a response to that and I think that’s pretty punk of them.

Jandy released ‘Alice Part II’. I’m really loving their retro feel and style. This song is a retro folk track I adore. This is the part 2 to their track ‘Alice’ they released in November.

Week 2

KDH dropped the mini-album ‘Jerton and Mell’. It’s a lovely indie rock moment. I especially liked ‘moments of joy and sorrow’ and the chorus of ‘near future’.

Charming Lips came out with ‘Orange chair’ featuring Summer Soul. If you’re in need of a jazzy soulful moment, this is the one. It’s giving me the same energy as ‘swaying in your bedroom to Lana Del Rey’. This track is part of the EP ‘Mindfulness color’. The entire mini is fantastic, but I especially loved ‘Lavender Field’ and ‘Blue Mine’.

CHEEZE released ‘PONG DANG’. It’s so adorable! It’s happy, poppy and carries such a light, fun energy. Also this video is one of the most adorable things I’ve seen in a while.

Week 3

Hanroro dropped ‘MIRROR’. I love the repetitive instrumental. The vocal tone is very unique and I dig it so much. When the powerful rock sections came in, I was immediately sold. If I’m not wrong she’s the vocal of the indie group CHAMSOM.

Yebit released ‘My Journey’. This track gives me a bit of bossa nova vibes. It’s a super lovely listening experience and Yebit doesn’t disappoint with her vocals. The guitar solo is exquisite.

Lee Joo Young released ‘My Sunshine’. It’s a beautiful ballad that has a lot of focus on the vocals with a minimalistic guitar line and the slightest bit of piano. The instrumentals swell together with the emotion.

Week 4

Yeewe came out with ‘mooindo’. Indie folk meets a dash of indie pop and it is a lovely combo. The synthy vibe makes it perfect for a summer evening.

The Orchard blessed us with ‘Nostalgia’. A lovely ballad with soft vocals and a beautiful piano line. This is one for the sad, nostalgic summer nights.

Sunkyoung released ‘Night of sand’ and its mesmerizing music video. This is experimental folk at its finest. I am utterly in love.
