[Indie Pick] Jooboring

We’re back with a new Indie Pick and this time we’re writing about Jooboring! Usually, loving indie artists is one of the easiest things to do. However, sometimes it’s also really, really frustrating because there’s so little info out there. The Spotify page can be all over the place, mixing a bunch of different artists together.

It won’t stop us from supporting though.

Debut

Today’s feature is about Jooboring, a Korean indie singer-songwriter who’s been active since 2017. His debut EP ‘Anyone Anywhere’ is quite frankly amazing, it’s the absolute softest and so sorely underappreciated that it breaks my heart a little.

The first track on the EP is the song that led me to write about him. The song ‘Night Beach’ is still one of my favorite songs by him. There’s beauty in the simplicity of the lyrics and they’re quite poetic.

“Who said that?
That it was a song suited for the beach at night?
When they stood in the night on the beach
and declared the stars were simply uncountable?
Did I say that?
That they were lyrics I could no longer remember?
When I stood in the night on the beach
I simply grew up a bit
I grew up a bit
and exclaimed how many stars there were.”

The last song ‘Drama’ on ‘Anyone Anywhere’ has some one of the smoothest, grooviest electric guitar solos I’ve heard in a while. That combined with Jooboring’s voice makes it such a lovely listen.

The Escape

He released his second EP ‘The Escape’ in May of this year and sadly it’s nowhere to be found on Spotify. I did find it on YouTube Music however, so that’s something.

The indie singer Onthedal who has a really lovely, soft voice is a feature on his track ‘A Season Song’.

His title track ‘Club 11am’, leans more towards the soft city pop genre with the synths going off in the background. It’s really lovely to see Jooboring experimenting with his sound.

He has also released a couple of singles, nl. ‘Wreck’, ‘To You, Bada’ and ‘At The End Of The Century’ that I recommend you check out as well if you enjoyed the songs so far.

That’s it for this week’s Indie Pick. I hope you enjoyed discovering about Jooboring and his soulful music. As a way to close off, I want to share one last song with you. His live performance of ‘Island’ from his second EP is an entire mood and I’m in love with the bass in this track.

Go say hi to him on his Instagram.
Here’s the link to his Spotify.
