Indie Pick: Glowingdog

For this week’s Indie Pick we’re writing about Glowingdog. Now, it’s a little bit different from our usual features. I tend to pick mostly solo artists who are really great vocalists. This time however, I wanted to write about the indie electronic producer Glowingdog.

It seems that Glowingdog started in 2016 under the label MUN HWA IN but in 2020 he made the switch to go completely solo and start under his own label. Glowingdog usually composes, arranges and produces his own work.

His first release ‘Texture’ is filled to the brim with great collabs. He mostly works with other people to take the role for the vocals, but there’s one exception. His song ‘Small Light’. I think that’s him singing, there’s no one else credited so it seems to be the obvious conclusion.

Just listen to the intro to his debut EP ‘Wilcox (intro)’. I love a good saxophone.

On ‘Texture’ he worked together with artists like Qim Isle and Savina and the Drones. God, that debut EP is SO good!

In 2018, he released the single ‘At Night’ featuring XulianX and it’s quite frankly amazing. Ayul, another indie artist wrote the lyrics for this track and co-composed it together with Glowingdog.

His latest release is ‘mixture’ and is chock full with some great collabs again like Jade, sogumm and Gond.

Collaborations

Glowingdog doesn’t just create songs for himself. He’s also made songs for notable artists like Taeyeon, WJSN, sogumm, Yerin Baek, Ku One Chan and Kang Min Kyung from DAVICHI.

He co-composed and co-arranged ‘LOL’ which is one of my favorite tracks from her album

For the song ‘12 O’CLOCK’ by WJSN he’s listed as one of the composers.

For the show ‘signhere’ he co-composed and co-arranged the track ‘What Should I do’ for Sogumm.

Honestly, I already loved Ku One Chan, and the fact that Glowingdog is credited makes it even better.

Glowingdog is really a great artist that most people probably don’t know about. It’s been so much fun diving deeper into his discography and his credited works. I’m very curious to see what direction he’ll take with his solo style and his collaborations. Happy Listening!
