Indie Pick: Ahn Ye Eun

Where to begin with Ahn Ye Eun? She’s our new Indie Pick because her latest release ‘OOO’ blew me away to a different continent. Like seriously, this 92-liner has more talent in her pinky than I do in my entire body. Whew!

Ahn Ye Eun started off as a participant in Kpop Star 5. And that show has blessed us with great performances like ‘Number Of Case’ and ‘Mr. Mystery’.

Especially ‘Mr. Mystery’ had me shook. If they told me it had been used in the Bond films, I would have believed it. That song is so fun, with the way she plays with her voice, expertly plays the piano and that trumpet that’s added in. It’s music at its best. Unfortunately she didn’t win that season, she ended up in second place. Lee Soo Jung otherwise known as Chai was the winner of that season. So we got two indie sweethearts basically. We even featured Chai in one of our Top 3s.

Ahn Ye Eun is currently under XX Entertainment but first started off under Pandawhale Company. Her first album, named after herself is completely self written and produced. The girl has skills, y’all.

She’s also performed at a Sofar Session, which you can check out here.

Ahn Ye Eun also co-wrote a song to commemorate women who fought for the liberation of South Korea.

‘OOO’

Now her latest album ‘OOO’, let’s take a moment to appreciate that. The music video for ‘KAKOTOPIA’ is beautiful and dramatic and it works perfectly with the emotion of the song.

In that album you have the songs ‘Whispering Gallery’ and ‘Octopus’ Dream’. They’re some of my favorites but it’s was so hard to choose. I really recommend that you just listen to the entire thing with your good headphones, because it will blow you away.

This artist really has such a unique voice and an amazing songwriting talent that I’m sure we’ll get plenty more to listen to.

Here’s her Spotify. For some reason she has a separate one for her OSTs, so here you go.

Go follow her on Instagram

She also has a personal YouTube account, where she posts covers.
