HOT RELEASE: SuperM has arrived

We have been following the development and media growth of the new SM entertainment group ‘SuperM’ since the beginning. Today the group’s first EP has dropped and we are here for it.

Their EP ‘SuperM – The 1st Mini Album’ has 7 songs, 2 of them are instrumental and the other 5 are tracks full of powerful vocals, rap, and a mix of different rhythms.

When I first listened to the entire thing I had mixed feelings, some of the tracks felt like EXO ones, others more like NCT or SHINee songs, but in a good way. It’s  like all of these legendary groups working together and creating something new, refreshing and good.

Different rhythms

Let’s start off with the first song, which is also the title track: ‘Jopping’. I’m not gonna lie, when I first saw the name I was slightly confused, but I love being introduced to new concepts and words. This song is mostly hip-hop, but the addition of the vocals and the different sounds made it a powerful track. I understand why this was chosen as the title track. Baekhyun’s high notes, Mark’s rap and the mix between EDM, hip-hop and that touch of electric guitar makes this track LEGENDARY.

Second on the list is ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’. This is one of my favourites, what made it so special was the inclusion of traditional Asian instrumentation with modern pop. That mix is so stunning and the vocals of the members make it even better. The intro is powerful and sets the mood of the entire song.

‘2 Fast’ comes third on the EP, and is performed by the sub-unit formed by Taemin, Baekhyun, Mark and Lucas. The inclusion of R&B with electro-pop is unexpected and exquisite at the same time. I absolutely love the vibe behind it and the sudden change of beats make for an amazing musical experience.

The fourth track ‘Super Car’ was introduced in Mark’s trailer and it is the reason why I was 100% on board with this group. Performed by the sub-unit including Mark, Taemin, Baekhyun, Ten and Taeyong. This song is heavily EDM and hip-hop influenced, it is powerful and probably my favourite one of the entire EP (Not biased).

‘No manners’ is the last song of this EP (excluding the instrumental ones) and I was greatly surprised when I found out that Taeyong took part in the writing of this song. The vibe of this track is completely different from the previous ones and the spanish guitar addition definitely sets it apart from the other ones.

What’s next?

I just have to say that the hype surrounding this release is well deserved. I like the musical journey that this entire EP represents and how different the tracks are from each other.

I’ll keep following the development of SuperM closely. They will continue performing mainly in United Stated and Korea, so keep an eye on them.

They are ‘The Avengers of K-pop’ and after today’s release we all understand why.
