Film Review: Fighter

I have another film recommendation for you.

This time, I watched the film ‘Always’ and I want to share it with you. I’m guessing I’m having a moment with the actress Han Hyo-Joo, because my previous film review was also a movie of hers. I just think her acting is top notch.

In ‘Always’ she plays Jeong-Hwa, a blind young woman who meets the rather introverted retired boxer Jang Cheol-min played by So Ji-Sub. He has a lot of baggage from his history. It’s no surprise that part of that history is connected to Jeong-Hwa. That is something that happens in pretty much 90% of Korean dramas and movies.

In the movie though, part of the reason why I loved it so much is, that you can see that they’re good for each other. He brings her out of her lonely existence and she brings him out of the shell he created for himself, she helps him open up, giving him goals.

The story itself though, is quite tragic at times. It’s heartbreaking really. The drama sucks you in and doesn’t let you go until the end where you can heave a big sigh because there’s definitely beauty in this drama.

There are no grand gestures or big moments. It’s more of a collection of small, honest, true moments that pack a heavier punch.

Beyond the two main characters, there’s maybe one or two other characters that are important to the story so it all falls down to the two leads. They definitely made it work.

Here’s the trailer:
