EP Review: Ong Seong Wu – Layers

Ong Seong Wu, previous member of Wanna One has released his first solo EP ‘Layers’. He has writing and composing credits on every single song, so we stan a multi talent. Let’s dive right in.

‘Layers’

Gravity’ is the first and also the title track of this EP. Watch the stunning music video.

The song is honestly amazing. It’s a bop. The chorus is very electronic driven, together with his chants. The chorus is also entirely in English, which makes it really easy to chant with him. The verses are a little bit softer.

Cafe’ is the second track on ‘Layers’. It’s a soft love song, with a lot of acoustic guitar. It’s very playful and plays with the rhythm a couple of times. His voice really stands out in ‘Cafe’. I would love an acoustic version of this like a SOFAR session.

Up next is ‘After Dark’. As the title might have predicted, this is a more slow song. It feels like he’s asking himself the questions that only come out at night, when you’re all by yourself. ‘After Dark’ is really lovely and with the high synths it reminds me a lot of dreaming.

In ‘BYE BYE’ Ong Seong Wu is brushing off all the haters. It’s funky, has a lot of energy and honestly I’m living for it. The little ‘Bye Bye’s’ in the chorus are really fun to hear. Also that little bridge is amazing?! It kind of took me off guard but it’s super fun!

GUESS WHO’ is the fifth track on the EP. First of all, the song is super playful. The flute is a great addition to the instrumentals. Seong Wu does this little run in the chorus and it’s fabulous.

‘WE BELONG’ is the last track and was previously released as a single.

I’ve been half in love with this song since it came out. The guitar, the vocals, the little synth in the background are all so well balanced. I need him to blow up.

What a great first EP! Ong Seong Wu is crazy talented, we’re here for it so go stream his EP ‘Layers’.
