EP Review: Hyukoh – through love

The indie/rock band Hyukoh is back with their new EP ‘through love’. They recently signed with the label DoorooDooroo AC and we couldn’t be more thrilled about this release. It is everything we waited for.

This extended play starts off with ‘Help’ and the bossa nova vibes at the beginning of the song was the perfect way to begin this release. As the song progresses more electronic tunes are included. The vocals are super soft. The highlight of the song is the mix of different elements and genres blended beautifully throughout. Can I also just say that the flute was incredible!

Hey Sun’ is next with an indie vibe that I absolutely loved. Oh Hyuk’s vocals are just amazing in this song. The bass and guitar accompaniment were just flawless. Total legends.

The third track ‘Silverhair Express’ is a journey. It starts with a very similar style to ‘Help’ but it builds up to become a song which highlight is the mix of the different instruments working in synergy with very little lyrics. This song is nothing I have heard before. A total masterpiece.

Fourth we have ‘Flat dog’ with an indie-rock melody, 70’s vibes and vocals that I totally dig. I absolutely loved the electric guitar throughout the full song.

World of the Forgotten’ is super soft and gave me the chills during its 1:33 min duration.

New born’ closes this EP with a musical journey from the very beginning till the end. This song summarizes the mini album with an unexpected mix of tunes that transforms it into an auditory experience that I did not know I was missing in my life. It’s so, so good!

I just have to say that after listening to this release my heart felt at ease. I really loved the soft concept they went for and the edgy sound they tried, it made this release different and refreshing.

The transitions between the songs were well thought out and made this full EP feel like a single song that lasted just over 26 minutes.
