EP Review: HEIZE – Lyricist

The queen HEIZE is back with her latest EP ‘Lyricist’. We’ve been stoked ever since we saw the announcement so let’s dive straight in!

Lyricist

The opening track and the first title track is ‘Lyricist’. It’s a beautiful R&B ballad with what I feel like is a little bit of Bossa Nova influences. The lyrics speak about viewing everything that happens to you through a lens of a lyricst. If you experience something just to be able to write about it, does it make you a devil or an angel. I really like the little audio sample used in the track.

The second title track is ‘Things are going well’. I am absolutely in love with the opening. The beautiful piano just hits the right spot. It’s a break-up song and in the music video we can see her literally put everything she got from her ex in the shredder. The thing is, that’s not really something you can do with memories.

Check out the music video for ‘Lyricist’ and ‘Things are going well’.

Next up is ‘Your name’ featuring ASH ISLAND. There should be a music video coming out for this track as well, at least according to the teasers I saw. Honestly, this feels like a very tragic story. But what a great combo! I enjoyed ASH ISLAND’s feature though I do wish there was a tad less autotune involved.

‘1/1440’ follows that with a feature of Ji Chanel. I’d never really heard of him before, but I’ll definitely do some digging into his discography. I love their synergy. No one is overwhelming the other and it feels like a perfect balance. I sincerely love this track, because it feels like very soft R&B.

The last track is ‘Not to see you again’. The piano opening is absolutely stunning and when the other layers come in, it creates such a broad soundscape. Ugh, I’m in love. This track is an outro and clocks in just over one minute, and I kind of wish it was a full length song, it doesn’t matter that there aren’t any vocals.

Overall

Again, HEIZE has released some quality content with ‘Lyricist’. I really enjoyed listening to this and I think that the title track will become the favorite of many. The entire thing is just so soft.
