Actor Spotlight: Lee Joon-Hyuk

We’re back with a new Actor Spotlight and this time we’re aiming that spotlight to Lee Joon-Hyuk.

Dramas

The actor, born in ‘84 has been around since 2007 when he first appeared in ‘First Wives Club’. It earned him the ‘New Star’ Award in the SBS Awards of the same year. The weekend drama had a whopping 104 episodes.

His first appearance was actually in the music video of ‘I will wait’ by Typhoon.

It’s not the only time he acted in a music video. He’s also in the 2010 music video ‘Love Bear’ by KCM.

After the role in ‘First Wives Club’ he played a couple of supporting roles until in 2009 he played one of the main roles in ‘Three Brothers’ which brought some much needed attention to him. After that he also played in ‘I Am Legend’ and the drama ‘City Hunter’ which featured none other than Lee Min-Ho.

A rather interesting part is the one he had in the 4 episode series ‘Naked Fireman’.

Rising Star

The first time I spotted him in a show was the much talked about ‘Stranger’, I wrote a review about the series that you can find here. Of course, he’s also in the second season. His performance in this show was superb. He played the kind of sleazy, bootlicking prosecutor who trades in his loyalty like change so well.

He also played in ‘Are You Human Too’. It’s kind of interesting to see him fly from prosecutor roles to romcom ones. He has totally avoided the typecast situation and honestly, I’m here for it.

In 2019, he received a nomination for the ‘Excellence Award’ in the Actor category for his performance in ‘Designated survivor: 60 days’ where he played the role of Oh Young-Seok.

The man has been nominated for quite a few roles but he’s never managed to win something other than the 2007 award, which honestly is kind of tragic.

Right now I’m watching the series ‘365: Repeat The Year’ which is a very refreshing take on time travel. I dig it, though I’m only a couple of episodes in so far.

Filmography

Now, let’s talk movies. He’s been in a couple of really good ones. Lee Joon-Hyuk was in the critically acclaimed ‘Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds’ and the second one of the series.

The last film I’ve seen where he was in, was the film ‘Baseball Girl’ with Lee Joo-Young who you probably know from ‘Itaewon Class’. It was an interesting film and I really enjoyed his performance as the coach that has kind of lost his mojo.

Lee Joon-Hyuk is a really great actor who I feel like is still flying under everyone’s radar a little bit even though he’s had some really great performances. I’m just waiting for the day that he blows up like he 100% deserves.
