[Review] Kang Daniel – Magenta

Kang Daniel is back with a new mini-album ‘Magenta’. Last week he pre-released the single ‘Waves’ featuring Simon Dominic and Jamie. Daniel is working his way around the colour wheel. His previous release was ‘CYAN’, now he’s going to the reds in ‘Magenta’. Let’s dive right in!

Magenta

The opening track is ‘Flash’. This R&B track with heavy synths is honestly a very cool way to start the EP. I really dig this.

Next up is the pre-released track ‘Waves’, which we wrote about here. I’ve been listening to this track on repeat since it came out, because the trio has such a great synergy.

After that we get the title track ‘Who U Are’ that came with a brand new music video. It’s a great dance track though I was quite shook when the bridge came up with the ‘levitate’ in the distorted voice. It’s a great way to catch your attention. Kang Daniel’s vocals are great as always.

‘Runaway’ featuring YUMDDA is up next. The guitar riffs in this are really dope. Those, together with the reggae vibes make it a really cool summer song. YUMDDA’s feature is really fun, I like his tone a lot.

The fifth track on ‘Magenta’ is ‘Movie’ featuring Dvwn. Smooth R&B with the combo of Dvwn and Daniel’s vocals makes for an absolutely lovely song. The chanting in the bridge brings some extra energy to the track.

The last track is ‘Night’. This one is absolutely lovely. It’s the slowest track of the mini-album and really allows his vocals to shine through. Imagine it like this, the rest of the songs you’ve played on a fun summer day, hanging out with your friends. This is the track you save for the campfire when you’re all tired and grateful that you were able to spend such a great day together.

Overall

‘Magenta’ by Kang Daniel is quite a different vibe from his ‘CYAN’ mini-album. In this one he’s fully embraced R&B and honestly, it’s a fantastic match.
