[R&B Gem] Chawoo

In this edition of our R&B Gem, we are talking about a singer with a soft voice, emotional storytelling, and a lot of soul. Let’s talk about the incredibly talented Chawoo.

Sung Chang-gyu, better known as Chawoo, has been active in the Korean indie music scene since 2015. He officially debuted independently with the single Why (왜 또), a smooth and emotional track that immediately introduced listeners to his mellow vocal tone and vibey style. Soon after, he followed it up with his first single album, Autumn Cliche.

The following year, Chawoo released his first EP, The Raw Stuff, continuing to build his signature sound with emotional lyrics and smooth R&B production.

During the early years of his career, he focused heavily on singles and single albums, steadily expanding his discography with tracks like DRAMA,’ ‘Memories,’ and Present.’ Each release added a different layer to his artistry while maintaining the emotional and comforting vibe that defines his music.

In 2019, he released his second EP, Good Night, featuring collaborations with artists like Boi.B, EachONE, and Jeon Tae Won. The project blended soulful R&B with hip-hop influences, further showcasing Chawoo’s versatility.

Continuous Growth

In 2020, Chawoo returned with his third EP, Life.’ This release leaned even further into the R&B and hip-hop blend, giving his music a richer and more dynamic sound. During the same year, he also collaborated with CRUCiAL STAR for the single ‘HONEY.’

The following year was packed with singles including ‘Gloomy,’ ‘Odiya,’ and ‘I can’t help myself,’ all of which continued to diversify his discography while highlighting his soft and expressive vocals.

In 2022, Chawoo teamed up with OLNL for the single ‘We Need Yo Yalk,’ one of the standout collaborations in his catalog.

That same year, he released his fourth EP, Report of Love 上 (愛),’ which included HONEY,one of the most popular songs in his discography.

2023 became one of the busiest years of his career, with nine single releases and his fifth EP, Report of Love 下 (哀).’ The project further showcased his emotional songwriting and ever-evolving sound.

Latest Releases

Chawoo started 2024 with the single ‘Give me a title,’ followed closely by ‘I want you’ featuring Ourealgoat and ‘I guess I knew this would happen.’

The following year, he released the singles ‘Love love love love’ and Go away,’ alongside his sixth EP, ‘Lighthouse.’

His latest releases are the singles arrrt.’ and ‘p o o m,’ both released in early 2026 and continuing to showcase his artistic growth and willingness to experiment with new sounds.
