The girls from NMIXX are back to slay with ‘Blue Valentine’. We’re super stoked because their previous album has been playing on repeat since release day. Let’s dive right in!
Blue Valentine
We start off with the title track ‘Blue Valentine’. Honestly this is a beautiful pop track that feels very dynamic through some tempo changes and has the trademark stunning vocals we know and love from NMIXX.
10/10!
‘SPINNIN’ ON IT’ comes up next. This is an alt pop track with a really cool bass and a cool energy throughout the song. The lyrics discuss a couple that can’t let go of each other despite repeated fights. The chorus is aweomse and the bridge is just top tier.
‘Phoenix’ is, according to the album introduction, a “São Paulo style” track. It’s fast-paced, addictive and powerful. I really dig the energy they put in this and the momentum is crazy. The humming is a really cool addition!
We’re going modern pop with ‘Reality Hurts’. This is the first time they’re releasing a fully English track.
Next up is ‘Rico’ which is a Latin pop and hip-hop blend. Honestly this was a very unexpected, but massive slay. This is a super fun listen and has a lot of charm! Also that chorus is insanely catchy. The little piano section was awesome.
‘Game Face’ is a super nice pop track. I liked the little ‘Ay!’ in the beginning. There’s some really beautiful harmonies in there and the overall progression is great. I loved the little vocal flips.
‘PODIUM’ is up next. Haewon is listed in the writing credits for this one. It’s an energetic pop track with a dash of reggaeton. It’s a pretty awesome listen. The girls are climbing high, on top of the sky with their lyrics.
We’re going jazzy with ‘Crush on You’. It’s adorable, refreshing and well constructed.
‘ADORE U’ is a pop rock track and this fits their vocals so well. “It’s about a heart that can’t let go, relying on familiarity to hurt each other. The closer we get, the more awkwardly we hurt each other.”
Next up is ‘Shape of Love’. This is a pop track with a very synthy chorus. It’s a super cool combo and creates a dope dynamic.
The closing two tracks are special versions of their debut single ‘O.O’. We get the Baila version and the Superhero version.
