K-INDIE CHART – SEPTEMBER

We’re back with the latest K-indie chart hot off the presses: September! We’re very curious to see who’s jumped to the top 10 this time, so let’s take a closer look!

K-INDIE CHART

Nerd Connection is at the very top of the list as a newcomer with their recent release ‘And yet, We still’. The album came out in August and it is their second full-length release. I’m really loving the artwork for the album cover which was created by goyoson.

Number 2 is also a newcomer. Lacuna released the album ‘Ghost’ at the end of July. Again there’s killer artwork happening for the cover, this time by Park Hayeong.

Surprising additions are MeloMance with an album from 2015 and Peppertones with an album from 2008. It just goes to show that good albums will always be appreciated, even so many years later.

Nerd Connection – And yet, We still

The album starts off with ‘Playing Shadow’. I’m really digging the guitars and the tempo. It’s an intense opener with solid drums. The bridge is excellent!

‘Psychiatric Hospital’ is an interesting listen with a really cool build-up and thought-provoking lyrics. That theme continues with ‘head shrinker’ though the latter has a more laidback instrumental going on. It’s sarcastic and a vibe.

The three other title tracks of this album are ‘Losing Myself’ which was a pre-release, ‘You’, ‘Freddy’ and ‘The highest tie’. I particularly enjoyed ‘You’ because of the instrumentals and the ambience. I enjoyed the little adlibs and the synthy piano.

Lacuna – Ghost

The album contains 7 tracks and starts this story with the title track ‘Ghost’. It’s a really solid rock track that will stay fresh even after tons of listens.

I’m obsessed with the opening for ‘save me!!!’. We’re going to outer space with the alien-esque opener by the synths. This is such a fun listen! It’s quirky, fresh and the guitar work is super dope.

sober’ has a more soft rock vibe to it as it’s very soft on the drums. I liked the melody and how easy of a listen this was. ‘Lamp’ follows that with a lovely intro and it’s fairytale lyrics.

Overflow’ decides to take us back to hard rock with a grungy sound and a long intro. This track is a whopping six minutes long and has incredible instrumental sections. ‘Cockscomb’ has a more laidback feel to it.

Where you begin to step in’ closes the album with some incredibly dense layering. Get ready to close this otherworldly experience with an otherworldly track.
