Actor Spotlight: Heo Sung-Tae

We’re back with a new Actor Spotlight, this time we’re taking a closer look at Heo Sung-Tae.

Squid Game

Of course, he had his big break with the 2021 K-drama ‘Squid Game’. His performance was amazing and his character a total asshole but you loved to hate him in the series.

He created an Instagram and already has over two million followers. All his pictures and captions are super wholesome so go give him a follow.

It’s great that he got this huge platform with ‘Squid Game’ internationally. I hope to see him in many more productions.

Beginnings

Heo Sung-Tae only really started pursuing his acting career in 2012/2013. He hasn’t been in the industry for that long. One of his first roles in ‘God of War’ was actually alongside his ‘Squid Game’ co-star Oh Young-Soo.

He worked small roles in series like ‘Reply 1994’, ‘Inspiring Generation’ and ‘Love on Rooftop’. Heo Sung-Tae was also in movies like ‘Man on high heels’, ‘Three Summer Night’ and ‘Outlaws’.

Around 2018 Sung-Tae started getting bigger roles. He delivered an outstanding performance in ‘Beyond Evil’ as the slick mafia CEO.

He was also in the 2019 drama ‘Psychopath Diary’ where he plays a not too clever gangster.

In ‘Racket Boys’ he played the Badminton coach Chun.

Heo Sung-Tae does seem to lean towards the action/crime genre, but to be honest I’d love to see him in a romcom as well. He always has really interesting characters he plays with a lot of layered motivations that are fun to try to unravel.

I’m looking forward to seeing more from him!
