For this week’s k-pop time capsule, we’re listening to G-Dragon’s ballad ‘Untitled, 2014‘. On repeat. Until our feels can’t take any more of that action. It’s just one of those songs.
Untitled, 2014
G-Dragon, the man, the artist, the legend, should need absolutely no introduction here; so straight to the song we go.
‘Untitled, 2014‘ was confusingly released in 2017 and as expected was extremely well received by audiences immediately. One of the best performing songs of that year, it had a perfect all-kill and later won ‘Song of the Year’ in the Gaon Awards.
Written by G-Dragon and Choice37, the song served as the lead single for his second solo EP, ‘Kwon Ji Yong‘. The whole EP is a more personal and honest, as might be expected considering the title – G-Dragon’s name. ‘Untitled‘ is undoubtedly the perfect single for this EP; The uncharacteristically simple MV only serves to further convey the raw vulnerability expressed in the song’s lyrics and melody. It’s enchanting and emotional, it draws you in and it’s impossible to not fall in love with it.
The lyrics, like a letter to a past lover, were naturally the source of endless speculation as to who it might have been about. To day, we know nothing, but this has never stopped fans from theorizing.
Without further ado, enjoy 🙂
