September Korean Indie DisKovery

We’re back with our top picks for our September Korean Indie DisKovery. This month had some fantastic indie releases so it was easy to pick out my favorites. Let’s take a look!

Week 1

Solga released her first album in ten years. ‘Road’ is an indie folk dream. The entire album takes you on a trip around healing spots in nature. It’s a wonderful, soothing listen.

Hon Kim came out with the EP ‘Words of a song’. This is another wonderful indie folk album. I really enjoyed his voice as well. This is his debut release, and I have high expectations for his next comeback.

Singer Kim Seyoung released the album ‘Homework’. He is part of the rock band Seogyo Group Sound. This new album has a mixture of hip-hop, instrumentals and rock influences. It’s a cool listen.

Week 2

The EP ‘Reminisce’ by singer-songwriter Sulgi is really cute. I love how they reflected the ‘ocean’ concept in the title track with the ebb and flow to the rhythm. It’s incredibly well done and I thoroughly enjoyed the guitar throughout the entire EP. If you’ve time, listen to ‘Wonder’.

Meaningful Stone doesn’t really need an introduction anymore. She’s been making waves for a while and I was super stoked with her latest EP ‘Cobalt’. The indie rock/garage rock influences are sick and I love this release a lot.

Wings of the ISANG is a new discovery for me. The heavy rock album ‘The Borderline Between Hope and Despair’ is such a fantastic listen. Everything is so well-balanced and intricately connected. Honestly, this is a 10/10 for me.

Week 3

Jazzer really said let’s give the people some groovy jazz with the album ‘Cake’. I’m 100% here for it.

Baek A released the album ‘Spaceship’. If you’re in need of cute indie pop, definitely check this one out. I particularly enjoyed the opening track.

Room 306 is giving us the electronica we were missing. Listen to it and allow yourself to be swept away by the current.

Week 4

The album by protonebula is such a vibe! There are some insane features like Qim Isla, Ku One Chan and Sumin. The opening song itself has my entire heart. It’s such a great track.

Hayan released the adorable track ‘hwi hwi’. This indie pop track will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face.

Week 5

Summer released the single ‘Homeless’. This is only her second release since she started. I couldn’t find her on either social media or on Spotify. However, I have high hopes for her next releases, because this one was absolutely lovely.

YouTube Music

HAGA came out with the single album ‘Lonely Geek’. The title track ‘Copernicus was an artist’ sounds super dope and the music video is appropriately haunting.

Naru dropped the EP ‘Greyed Out’ and it is such a nice listen. I especially loved the last track ‘I’ll Be Waiting’. The addition of the electronic sample is so well done! Definitely give it a listen. Naru is part of the indie rock band The Solutions.
