[Review] YooA – Selfish

OH MY GIRL YooA is back with her second mini-album ‘Selfish’. Let’s dive right in, because I’ve been super curious about this comeback.

Selfish

We start off with the title track ‘Selfish’. This is a super funky R&B track that has a super catchy hook. The instrumentation feels quite thin in certain places. I kind of wish they had toned down the one drum in the instrumentation, because it tends to be a bit repetitive. However, the entire track feels quite camp, so I’m sure they placed it there with intention.

The bridge with the ‘zom zom’ is a vibe that I’m here for. Also she looks absolutely incredible in the music video.

After that comes ‘Lay Low’. We’re going electro pop for this one. I am absolutely obsessed with the chorus. Her vocals also really fit this to perfection. Her soft timbre in the bridge is wonderful. Honestly, this is a banger, I dig it.

‘Blood Moon’ is one groovy track! The bass is intense and amazing. Her jazzy vocals make this even better. The harmonies in the chorus are wonderful! I love the layering of this track so much.

The last track is ‘Melody. YooA is a siren in this one, ready to steal your heart away and bewitch you with her melody. This is such a lovely track! Again, the chorus is super catchy, there’s a really nice bass melody going on in the back and the entire track feels super chill.

Overall ‘Selfish’ by YooA is a really solid comeback that has a big variety of genres while still feeling cohesive. This entire mini is a moment!

Go ahead and listen to it here.
