The girls from Red Velvet are finally back with their new EP ‘The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday’. We are super stoked for this comeback, so let’s dive right in!
The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday
We start off with the title track ‘Birthday’ which samples the classical song ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ by George Gershwin. It’s a cute track, but I was expecting the sample would be more incorporated, more like in their previous title track ‘Feel My Rhythm‘.
Despite liking it, I do feel like there’s something missing.
The music video is really cool though. The make-up looks are absolutely stunning! Wendy with the purple eyeshadow and Irene with the pearls were total highlights.
‘BYE BYE’ is up next. We’re going R&B with cool strings and a sick beat. The chorus is stunning and I love the ‘cool girl’ vibe they’re going for. Wendy is going all in with the high notes in the backing track. I’m absolutely in love.
Following that is ‘On A Ride’. We’re blessed with hyper-pop Red Velvet. The synths in the backing track are insanely catchy. This is such a cool moment for the girls. I’m super curious to see what kind of choreo they’ll do to this. I’m missing a bit of depth in certain places, because all of the instrumentals feel very high with then also really high vocals on top.
‘ZOOM’ brings us back to the R&B genre. This song is literally all just VIBES. It’s super catchy, I love the groove to it and the members did an outstanding job with the vocals.
The closing track is ‘Celebrate’. This mid-tempo R&B track feels very languid and cozy. I love the harmonies and the wholesome feeling. It’s definitely a lovely end to a great EP.
