[Review] PURPLE KISS – memeM

2021 rookie girl group Purple Kiss is back with their third mini-album ‘memeM‘ and a witch concept. A couple of weeks ago they started off this era with very interesting short films explaining the story of the seven witches and their lives.

We absolutely love supernatural concept and the aesthetics that come with them, so let’s get ready for the music and visuals prepared for this comeback. Let’s dive in!

Intro : Illusion‘ begins this mini-album with mysterious vibes in a very captivating intro track with killer vocals. Next up is the title track ‘memeM‘ with trap beats and bass, the constant changes of bpm and rhythm are super interesting, and they just get even better with the vocal dynamics of the members. This song has a very cool and interesting structure, definitely out of the box and a total bop!

For the MV of this music video we get killer visual mixed with an awesome choreography, I would have loved if they had made it more witchy, but overall the visual effects are incredible and the members look fantastic. Watch it below.

Oh My Gosh‘ comes up next exuding chill vibes in a very trendy track that is effortlessly good. I love the R&B vocals added into this song and how dope it blended with the EDM flow in this song. This single is a full vibe!

Next up

With the song ‘Pretty Psycho‘ we get a very unique and very unpredictable style. The layering and mixing are spot on and unique. The falsettos and rhythm in this single are incredible. It’s a solid b-side with a very unique charm that stands out.

Acoustic instrumentation takes over in the rather groovy and soft single ‘JOAH‘. This song is perfect to just sit back and enjoy the beautiful singing of the members. The vocal power is outstanding and this song proves it.

Hate me, Hurt me, Love me‘ comes along with a lovely rhythm and really cool melodic rapping. This track is fun and I loved the carefree feel in it.

Closing this mini-album is ‘Cursor‘ starting as a pop-ballad and becoming a hybrid between EDM and acoustic instrumentation. This song is heavy on feels and emotions, and the layering is powerful and super well balanced.

PURPLE KISS’ third mini-album was packed with surprises and incredible music. The release is well rounded and by far my favourite one from them. Make sure to listen to ‘memeM’ here.
